Statement of Purpose

The original Candler Field is now Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest airport! Step back in time as Candler Field Museum recreates the original Atlanta Airport as it existed in the 1920’s and 30’s. The museum’s purpose is to restore and preserve antique airplanes, autos and machinery in an operational museum with a period time setting.

We are located in Williamson, Georgia at Alexander Memorial Airport (GA2), an old grass airstrip that has been in operation since 1967. The Doug Davis Hangar houses our Youth Aviation Program and is open to the public. The Youth Aviation Program was started in December 2013. Ron Alexander, the museum founder, felt it was important to give back. Therefore, mentors volunteer their time in the program to teach students the skills of restoring, repairing and maintaining aircraft. In return for their hours working in the program, students are given the opportunity to earn their private pilot certificate.

In addition to the Youth Aviation Program, the museum operates a self-supported Flying Club that offers its members the opportunity to utilize one of the club’s airplanes to fly. They offer instruction to student pilots.
